Christmas - the Most Wonderful Time of the Year?

The decorations are up, children are rehearing their nativity plays, and the carol singers are singing - be it socially distranced, via video links, or on the radio at least. Either way, the Christmas spirit is in the air and most children are eagerly waiting for their bulging stocking to be delivered.

For many families though, Christmas brings stress, worry and guilt. The pressure that comes with buying presents, enormous amounts of food and spending more money that you can afford, is enormous. For families who can’t buy extravagant presents, or afford to buy a gift for the teacher, or even for their other half, there also comes great guilt. This can have a major impact on mental health (see our article on mental health in the workplace, for more information). This stress can then continue well into the new year as many people take out payday loans just to cover the cost of that one day. In fact, over a third of us borrow money to pay for Christmas gifts - that's 16.9 million people.

Rent is one of the contributing factors to this stress. Although it is something which tenants know they have to pay, during the festive season, it can seem more unmanageable. LettsPay can ease this problem through their payment platform.  LettsPay offers a unique payment system which enables tenants to pay using a variety of methods. Although they are  able to pay via direct debit, or standing order, they can also be more flexible. They can opt to pay via bank transfer which means that they can make payments early and over pay if they have the money to do so. This means that they can overpay in the months leading up to December, so that when they have the extra worry of paying for Christmas, they can pay in less for their rent. They can also ask someone else to pay on their behalf, so a generous family member can pay their rent as a Christmas gift. This makes managing rent payments easier and therefore, they are free to enjoy Christmas and use their hard earned money to spoil the people they love.
